Abstract:

Delayed awakening frequently occurs in aged patients experiencing general anesthesia and requires urgent evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment. Aminophylline, a popular bronchodilator, has been found to antagonize the hypnotic effects of sedatives and anesthetics. Here, we report the administration of aminophylline to an elderly patient with cardio- and cerebrovascular diseases to speed the postoperative recovery following general anesthesia.
